Homer-Harvey's Out

Our best friends are moving up to Illinois this summer. There's not really much that I can say on the subject so I thought I would let the pictures speak for themselves.
HomerHouse YouTube link here.
As you can imagine, after almost 10 years of friendship there are a ton of cute pictures. Most of you know that Jared, Spencer & Mikayla are just three weeks apart in age. Kevin is the middle child of both families and "the girls", Ryan and Kiersten (aka KieKie), are only two weeks apart. No, we didn't "plan" things that way, but God sure did. Jennie and I started hanging out when the big kids were three months old and for the last 9+ years, rarely a day went by that we didn't see them or hear from them. It will be a big adjustment to the Homer House...

Don't BE the best, just DO your best...

So tonight was our last swim meet for summer and boy was it exciting. Jared finally broke a 20 second freestyle with a 19.45...wahoo! Ryan was such the little firecracker! A lady looked at her in concessions and said, "you're too little to swim, how old are you?" and she replied, "I'm five!" to which the lady said, "well, are you fast?" and she looked at her like, duh, and said, "yes, I'm a firecracker!"...I had to look at the lady and say, "she's small but mighty"...Kevin did something NEVER before done in our house. He swam in five events and took a blue in EVERY event. If you remember last weeks post, he just got his first blue EVER, and this week he came in first in each event. Must have been the Smoothie King shake he had with his dinner!

Some cool news to report. Michael Arnold, a US Olympic hopeful, swam against us this evening. Jared sees him all the time at Gold practice, but he lives in the subdivision we were against tonight. He swam against one of our coaches and it was really something for the little kids. I don't think a lot of them "got" it, but it was pretty darn cool.

All in all it was a great night and we are ready to head off to the beach for a while. I am looking forward to our last Gold practice this Friday. Ryan will be trying out with Coach Karen to determine her placement for next year. I'll keep you posted!

Suprise Visit!

Jared, Kevin, Cole, Zara and Ryan
Ryan caught a picture of Mommy...
...she also caught Daddy and Cameron!
**************
Saturday brought some great news to the Homer House. Our Best Man, Cameron, and his family were passing through town on their way home to Texas. We waited to tell Bob and Barb just in case they weren't able to make it. They arrived around 6 pm on Saturday and we had Zaxby's for dinner. The boys spent the evening playing on the Wii and getting to know each other (their son Cole is a few months younger then Ryan). They also have a cutie pie named Zara who is 21 months old and LOVED chasing the kitty cats around the house. She and Ryan played my little ponies and hung out with the adults...we had a great time and they left Sunday in time to make it to the Braves game. We got a call from Barb that the Thomas family made the jumbo tron at Turner Field, I wish I had a picture of it for the blog!

We had an awesome swim meet against Arden Lake. Jared did really well taking a 1st in 25 free, 2nd in the medley relay and the 25 fly, and 4th in the 25 back. Kevin did AWESOME, getting his first ever blue ribbon in the 25 free. He also brought home a 2nd for 25 back and a 4th in the free relay. Ryan...wow, she has turned out to be quite the fish. She did well in the 25 free, almost beating her best time with a 32.97, good for 3rd place. She blew out her best backstroke time again with a 35.16, also earning a 3rd place and she participated in the free relay for her third 3rd placement of the night. She was happy because all her ribbons were the same color...apparently we must match at all times....

Kevin's first ever blue ribbon!
I love this video, the look on his face is priceless...
Way to go Bu!!!

Georgia State Games

Today I entered Jared and Ryan into the Georgia State Games for Swimming. I thought this would be a good experiance for them and they could have some fun, without having to worry about getting points for their teams. This was just for them and the State Games are modeled after the Olympic games--including medals for the top three in each event. I saw cars from Fulton and Coweta counties in the parking lot so some folks drove a long way to be there today. Brag alert*** Jared was in four events; 50 Free, 25 Free, 25 Breast, and 25 Fly...he broke all his personal best times today--in ALL four events. He got a Bronze in 50 Free and 25 Breast. In his last event he got a GOLD in 25 Fly. Breast is his favorite stroke, but he really does well in the Fly. Mega Brag alert*** Ryan swam in two events, 25 Free and 25 Back. She blew her past time for Backstroke out of the water by 3 seconds...a 38.39! Amazing for such a little peanut!! Her 25 Free was great, it was her second best time...her all time best time would have put her in third place... she had a bad start off the block and had a hard time hearing the go whistle. I was SO amazed by her today, she was the ONLY 5 year old there and she gave them a run for their money. Sadly she came in 4th in both events (my heart broke for her) but she was a great sport and she learned a lot today.
